Hurricane Matthew has weakened to a Category 3 storm, but Florida residents are not out of the woods yet. About 500,000 homes across the state are without power, maximum sustained winds are still blowing at up to 120mph, and hazardous conditions may prevent gas stations from resupplying, leading to potential shortages of fuel.
Hybrid drivers have one less thing to worry about, in that respect.
In fact, the 2016 Toyota Prius is a safe bet for families all year round, wet or dry. It earned a Top Safety Pick+ from the IIHS, meaning it stands up to the most rigorous crash-test standards, and is available with front-collision prevention technology that can automatically bring your car to a halt from up to 25mph in order to prevent an impact.
And, for families with young children in particular, it is now easier than ever to correctly install a child safety seat. The new Prius "open-access concept" allows parents and guardians to quickly find and attach the car's anchor points to the child seat, for a secure fit every time.
Only three models earned the highest LATCH ease-of-use rating from the IIHS, Good+, and we're proud that the 2016 Prius was one of those three.
When the storm has passed, and it's safe to drive again, visit Clearwater Toyota to test out a new family-friendly hybrid, designed to protect you through the best and worst of times.
