My son is a recent college graduate and his car finally gave out. We needed to purchase him a replacement rather quickly. I typically prefer Toyota vehicles so we focused on looking for a Corolla. Our friends had looked for replacement vehicles and their experiences were terrible. While the pandemic contributes to 90% of that, delivery of their vehicles was often months away and even delayed after that. Used cars seemed to be priced so high that purchasing new seemed like the best idea. We made one visit to the dealer just north of Tampa in Pasco and we got the sit down and some silly price (about 8000 over MSRP) that they wouldn't even budge on. Of note, I’ve bought there before and was treated very fairly. I typically reach out to Consumer Reports or TrueCar and start getting reviews and prices and then the texts and emails start rolling in from various dealers. While the MSRP listed is typically the same across dealers, the real price is obviously higher given Southeast Toyota and dealer add-ons. I know most dealers' hands are tied regarding the permanent add ons from Southeast Toyota so I typically give that a pass. I asked seven dealers for out the door prices (tax, tag, etc). I was surprised that one-third actually emailed me back with the out the door price with costs detailed. The others were vague, overpriced, or just wanted to get me in the door. Most came in about 3000 dollars over what I expected from research. I was contacted by Cary Callahan at Clearwater Toyota and she quickly provided an out the door price that was more than fair compared to the others. The car was yet to be delivered to the dealership, but she said that it would take eight to ten days to arrive at the dealership. Cary was highly personable, attentive, and very responsive. Outside of meeting in person to close, literally all but one of our conversations was done via text and email. I accepted the offer, signed all paperwork and when the car arrived, I provided a drivers license, tag/registration via text. I was shocked how easy it was. We just had to show up and sign the usual docs in person with check in hand. Sadly, my experience with other dealers made me distrustful of everything. I thought I was going to get some last minute charge or excuse, or a much greater delay in delivery -- but everything that was promised was delivered to the letter. This would be the third car we purchased at Clearwater Toyota Everything was straightforward and accurate as before, and Cary treated us like valued customers with follow up to ensure we were still satisfied. If I had to purchase another car today, I would without a doubt reach out to Cary immediately. She was a joy to deal with. Even during the pandemic, this was clearly the best car purchasing experience I have had to date. Again this dealer goes above and beyond. It's great when everything works out.

From start to finish, I had an excellent experience at Clearwater Toyota. I first came by in mid-January to test-drive a 2010 Prius and was politely approached by Brahim Fourari in the showroom. I at first said we were ok, and didn't have any questions yet and he respected the answer and said to let him know if we needed anything. I ended up doing the test drive with Brahim and he did everything right. When I let him know after the test drive that I was not intending to purchase that weekend, he was perfectly ok with that. All good salesman know that the first chance is the best one to make a sale, but Brahim respected my intentions to test drive a few other brands of cars that weekend. Right then, I knew that I wanted to work with him if I did come back to purchase the Prius. The following weekend, on January 30th I came back to look at the Prius again and possibly purchase. I experienced no high-pressure sales tactics during the price negotiation and had a positive experience in dealing with both Brahim and the Sales Manager Justin Matthews. I did most of negotiating with Justin and his attitude and patience with me were both outstanding. It took me awhile to consider my options in negotiating the deal, and Justin was professional throughout, including giving me time to discuss with some family. George Kozlowski was also easy to work with and he earned my finance business by beating the interest rate that I had gotten from a third-party before coming in that day. He also patiently explained all of the figures in the contract and the options for extended warranties and add-on's. I also must mention Kellan Schneider. He assisted me a few days later when I stopped by to inquire about getting a scratch buffed out. It happened accidentally during the prep process when my license plate was affixed to the car. (It was raining that day, and the water drops probably obscured the scratch mark, which Brahim and I didn't see during the walk-around after purchase) Kellan, even though it was not his sale, also spent quite a bit of time with me explaining the Prius electronics and driving tips in regards to the Prius fuel economy. I was at the dealership last week to have the Prius brake recall taken care of. I didn't wait more than a few minutes to meet with the service advisor, even though they were swamped that day. Service experience positive too. If you live in the area, I would consider stopping by. Any business, especially car dealerships since a car purchase can be a draining and emotional experience, will get negative reviews. I didn't experience any of that, but I was prepared going in. Take an hour to read "Don't Get Taken Every Time" by Remar Sutton. It's a good and very informative read. If you want to save money, it's worth your time.
